  Research advances in recent years are showing that music has a tremendous impact on how we learn and think in all areas of our lives.  Students who have musical experience taking their SAT’s score an average of 52 points higher on the verbal portion and 37 points higher in math (89 points total) than those without musical instruction.  Furthermore, The American Music Conference of 2001 stated, “studies have linked active music making with better language and math ability, improved school grades, better-adjusted social behavior, and improvements in spatial-temporal reasoning”.  Those of us who have learned to unleash our imaginations and creativity through music will always be able to tackle different life situations as healthy challenges rather than obstacles.  Because music is a basic expression of human culture, we should all have access to a musical outlet.

  Founded in December of 2005, Vance Music Studios offers the highest quality music instruction possible.  The studios founder and director Christopher E. Vance felt the need to create an environment where the student as an individual could flourish musically.  After 12 years of teaching in “lesson factory” environments, the urge to open a studio that is organized, personable, high-caliber, and most of all FUN became a reality.  We have students who come to Lakewood from all over the greater Cleveland/Akron region: Hudson, Twinsburg, Kent, Macedonia, Beachwood, Cleveland Heights, Brunswick, Brecksville, Eastlake, Westlake, Rocky River, Parma, Bay Village, Avon, Fairwiew, Green, just to name a few.  They make the drive - some over an hour each way - because quality is hard to come by.

  Our newly renovated Madison avenue location has only 3 lesson studios, meaning lessons will not interfere with each other in terms of volume and traffic, and each student gets personalized attention not only from the instructor but from the staff as well.  Also, we are not a retail business, so the noisy and congested “music store” atmosphere associated with many music lessons is avoided.  Because we have all the necessary equipment and materials in house, the student only needs to bring minimal materials to the lesson (i.e. drum sticks, books, guitar, etc.)

  Our instructors have degrees in music (some at the graduate level), have a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience (with positive results), and are extremely active as performers at a professional level.  All lessons and other programs at Vance Music Studios focus on technical skills, general musical knowledge and theory, programmatic and historical elements, performance, and repertoire - and of course, HAVING FUN WITH MUSIC!  We offer lessons to anyone 5 years old and up, developing personalized lesson plans for each student as an individual.  Young student lessons may include different games, puzzles, and other activities that, while remaining fun and keeping the students interest, impart the musical skills needed to enjoy music throughout their lifetime.  Beginners are welcome, as are advanced players who need to brush up on a few things.  We also offer student rock bands, jazz bands, and chamber music sessions led by seasoned coaches.  This gives the student a live outlet to execute their newfound skills and abilities.
